I?m back from vacation and already fully back into everything ? training, teaching, researching, reading, writing, planning. It?s a crazy life, but ya know what? Despite being tired, sore, and hungry, I love my job. I love hearing when my clients lose weight or feel their muscles. I love helping people realize they don?t need 7 hours/week to get a good workout in. I love the music, recipe, and workout suggestions and opinions. I love it all. So keep it coming!
Here?s a review on a BodyRock workout I did a while back.
BodyRockTV ? Booty Lover Workout + Bonus Abs, Shoulder & Arms Sculpt Cool Down & Emotional Eating Talk
The opening talk was unexpected. I?ve never seen/heard anything like this on BodyRockTV before and I?m not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, I really enjoy the fact that they decided to talk about this issue in particular. Lisa Marie actually starts tearing up before it?s an issue that?s real for her. Emotional eating is one of the stages of an eating disorder and done often enough, it can morph into a full-blown binging and purging eating disorder. Health and fitness is more than just working out?it?s about total mind and body health.
As for the workout, it was trickier to substitute because I was in the workout room at one of my gyms and we don?t have sandbags and I forgot to step up a bench/step beforehand, so I had to get creative in a hurry. I used a 15lb. kettlebell in place of the sandbag, a 10lb. medicine ball in place of the Ugi ball, and a stability ball and BOSU ball in place of a step for the pushups and ab bonus section. Dumbbell-wise, I used 10s for all of the bonus arm moves.
How long did it take? About 20 minutes
Was it tough? Yes and no. Don?t get me wrong, it was tough, but I can?t say it was the toughest one I?ve done so far.
Did I feel like I got a good workout in? Yeah, I did. I always do with BodyRock workouts, honestly, it?s just a matter of whether or not it?s a good workout by itself. This was definitely a good workout by itself (I was sweaty and drippy at the end), but I did more than just this today for my workout.
Why I liked it: The moves were, like most BodyRock workouts, a good mix of well-knowns and new combos. I liked the frog hop with the pushups and I really liked the jump roping in between. I definitely felt my whole body working and saw all of my muscles flexing.
Do I recommend it? Yeah, I would. As you can tell, it?s not my fav BR workout, but it?s good. I worked hard, pushed myself, and sweat. I just wasn?t as enthusiastic about all of the moves as I have been about some of the other workouts. And I?m still not sure how I feel about the bonus dumbbell workout section? But if you?re a BodyRock fan and/or need a good total-body-but-more-upper-body-focused workout in 20 minutes or less, you?d like this one.
