Darren Criss, 'Glee' Star, Puts Gay Spin On 'Happy To Keep His ...

"Glee" star Darren Criss offered a nod to marriage equality with a fabulously gay take on a Broadway classic.

At the Outfest Legacy Awards in Los Angeles, Criss honored stage and screen producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron with "Happy to Keep his Dinner Warm," a number that's traditionally performed by the female lead in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."

?I heard this song [when I was young] and said, 'That's great! Such a bummer I'll never be able to sing it, though, because it's a girl's song -- a very popular one at that,'? Criss, who took over for Daniel Radcliffe last winter in the recent Broadway revival of "How to Succeed," told the crowd. ?I didn't know that 15 years later I would be on a television show where pronouns didn't really matter, and I could sing all kinds of female or male songs...it didn't really matter."

Before launching into the song, Criss went on to call his performance "very serendipitous of the political climate we're in right now, socio-politically."

Zadan and Meron, who received the prestigious Visionary Award at the Oct. 13 ceremony, were the producers of the "How to Succeed" revival, and currently work on the hit NBC series "Smash."

"We are honored and humbled to receive the Visionary Award from an organization as important and crucial as Outfest," the duo told Playbill. "We hope we can help spread the word that the community needs to embrace and support this outstanding group, that does so much to enrich the art and the lives of LGBT people everywhere."
