Childhood obesity has been getting press coverage for a very long time. This press coverage has made little difference to these epidemic proportions, especially in the US.

We are not going to assign blame to people or discuss what makes people obese as we all know this already. In the later years of a child?s life they can have major health dangers or even have their life threatened if they are obese or overweight now. Suffering physically and even psychologically is what a noticeable percentage of an entire generation experience. As well as having to endure being a teen, they should not have to put up with the brutality from their peers for being overweight. We shall have a deeper look at what may be facing an obese child today.

Hypertension and high blood pressure are all but synonymous with obesity no matter what your age may be. While there are some severe medical conditions won?t be seen in childhood obesity sufferers while there are some others are a lot more likely to show up. High blood pressure is one of the problems that is often seen in kids who are severely overweight or suffer from obesity. Obviously there is physical stress that gets put on the body when a person has excess weight but there is significant psychological stress as well. Kids who are obese are forced to endure both physical and verbal abuse from peers. It build and builds and becomes a very stressful situation for the child which then leads to high blood pressure.

Pretty much anybody who is obese is forced to deal with a bunch of psychological challenges. When a child feels like he is under constant abuse from peers he is more likely to hate himself, not have any self confidence and have severe stress and anxiety issues. These are silent problems that obese kids and teens often endure all by themselves. When the situation goes on long enough and gets severe enough it could cause the victim to develop behaviors that border on or even are sociopathic. We can?t find any honest data about the number of obese high school students who end up going to college. Our guess is that the number is relatively small and that there are quite a lot more obese high school kids than college kids. Would that really be surprising since so many are probably worried about enduring even more years of torture and abuse?

You can probably guess that there is a serious social stigma that gets assigned to obese kids and teenagers. Going to school every day must be something on par with being tortured for these kids. The effects of chronic teasing, comments and even bullying will certainly cause life-long psychological scars or even severe damage. Every person is going to have a different response to this. The ripple effects of being obese are huge and serious, and we seriously think many obese teens and adults may seek counseling so they can deal with the damage done. There is a real problem with kids and teens who suffer from obesity that affects other people too. It is important to look at this also from the standpoint of cost to society. Obese kids will usually become obese adults, and there are costs associated with medical, lost time from work, etc. This makes obesity society?s problem though most people don?t see it that way.
